ChessScope is free — here's how you can help keep it growing.
Getting Started
What is ChessScope?
ChessScope is a free, curated video library of chess openings. Every card links to a hand-picked YouTube video explaining the ideas, key moves, and theory behind a specific opening. No account needed — just browse and watch.
Do I need to create an account?
No account required. ChessScope is completely free to use with no sign-up, no login, and no personal data collected. Open the site and start learning immediately.
What skill level is the library for?
The library covers openings for all levels — from beginner-friendly systems like the London or Italian, to complex theoretical battlegrounds like the Najdorf or King's Indian. Each card labels the colour and style to help you find the right content.
Browsing & Searching
How do I find a specific opening?
Use the search bar at the top of the Library page. Start typing any opening name — e.g. "Sicilian", "King's Indian", "Caro-Kann" — and the cards will filter instantly as you type.
What do the colour filters mean?
As White — openings you play with the white pieces.

As Black — defences and responses for when you play Black.

Both Colours — videos covering positions from both perspectives, or general theory applying to either side.
Watching Videos
How do I watch a video?
Click on any opening card in the library. A panel will open with an embedded YouTube player — watch the full video without leaving ChessScope. Press Escape or click the ✕ button to close it.
A video isn't loading — what do I do?
Videos are served directly from YouTube. Try refreshing the page. If the problem persists, the video may have been removed by its creator — the library will be updated as soon as this is noticed.
Supporting the Project
Is ChessScope really free?
Yes — always. ChessScope will never charge for access. If you find it useful and want to help keep it growing, you can support via the Support Me page. It's entirely optional and deeply appreciated.
Can I suggest an opening to add?
Absolutely! The library grows over time. If there's an opening you'd love to see covered, leave a note via the Support Me page. Suggestions from the community shape what gets added next.
